Early life
Born on December 30, 1965 in
Cooksville (now
Mississauga) in
the
province of
Ontario,
Canada.
Around the age of five, he began singing and
imitating voices from
cartoons. He
recorded tapes of himself singing along to
songs such as "We´ve Only Just Begun" from
The Carpenters to
compare the sound of his voice with actual
studio recordings. He and his brother
Stephen both had music lessons on the
Hammond organ sponsored by their parents.
Later Darrin learned bass guitar and
starting playing with his brother who now
was playing lead guitar, and together they
formed a punk band called "The Enemies".
After unsuccessfully trying to recruit a
drummer, they bought a drum machine and
changed the band name to "Broken Chant". Now
inspired by bands such as
P.I.L.,
Cabaret Voltaire,
and
The Flying Lizards
they began recording odd songs together and
with the purchase of a
synthesizer slowly
became more electronic. Eventually
discarding all traditional rock instruments,
and composing entirely on analog
synthesizers.
At the age of 17, Darrin performed for the
first time with his brother, and additional
band member Dwayne Goettel as
Psyche.
Style
Darrin Campbell Huss has performed around
the world with his band
Psyche becoming
renowned for his wide vocal range as well as
his appealing timbre. He has been involved
in various genres of electronically based
music. An album of songs under the band name
Lounge, entitled "Elegance" was released at
the end of 2006. It features his vocals of
emotional melancholy and relaxed moodscapes
with romantic and thoughtful lyrics to
chillout, and downtempo music. Darrin has
also been a guest vocalist for several
artists in the
Electropop genre
such as
Icon Of Coil,
Angels & Agony
Fading Colours,
Controlled
Collapse
and
Brain Leisure
